Remains of an airplane, metallic material, oil and an airplane seat,  have been spotted in the sea near where Air France Flight 447 is believed to have disappeared Sunday night on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. Brazil’s Air Force reports there is very little material given the size of the plane with 228 people on board. 

On the second day of a hearing by the National Transportation Safety Board into a February air crash that killed 49, revelations show that long commutes, low salaries, and pilot fatigue constituted a “winking and nodding” at passenger safety.

Continental Connection Bombardier Q400  pilot Capt. Marvin Renslow, had not been adequately trained in auto-pilot and de-icing systems say family members of the 49 people who were killed on Flight 3407 last February. Pilot error and procedures will be the focus of a three-day NTSB hearing.

Rest for pilots at the helm for more than 16 hours is at the center of a dispute between seven airlines and the FAA. Some pilots say the rest time is not adequate but the airlines have filed a lawsuit fighting the imposition of tougher rules requiring more rest.
