A second study now finds that alcohol consumption prior to an injury reduced the risk of death, in this study by 65 percent. No one is advocating drinking and driving but there may be a therapeutic use for alcohol to speed healing.

Even low amounts of alcohol increases the risk of certain cancers in women. A new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute finds an estimated 13 percent of breast, liver, rectum and upper respiratory/gastrointestinal cancers may be linked to alcohol use.

This report from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, indicates that half of high school seniors will have tried a prescription drug for recreational use before they graduate high school. While marijuana and alcohol use has declined, the painkillers Vicodin and OxyContin use has increased among primarily white, middle-class teens.

A new study says raising state taxes on alcohol can save lives. The findings, based on experiences in Alaska, found raising alcohol taxes resulted in a reduction of alcohol consumption which in turn saved lives. Also, most states have had the same taxes on alcohol for 20 years or more.

A small amount of alcohol consumption has been found to benefit the heart, but not the brain. Even a small amount of alcohol may lead to brain shrinkage, a new study reorts. The study concludes if you drink a lot you’re going to hurt your brain, the impact being more noticable in women.

Don't believe alcohol has much to do with cancer?  Then you likely are from a wealthier country. This international survey on attitudes about cancer causes and cures finds striking differences- among them- most lower income countries want the doctor to make all treatment decisions.

This study off more than 8,000, finds that Americans are drinking slightly less than they did 50 years ago, and have shifted their preference from beer to wine. White men have reduced their daily consumption from two-and-a-half to one-and-a-half drinks.

Kids often get alcohol from adults, a nationwide survey shows. With almost 11 million underage drinkers, the survey shows that there is a disagreement among adults just when it's okay to let kids drink, and as a result, many adults open their homes to underage drinking.
