This new CDC study finds that between 1997 and 2007 incidents of allergic reactions to foods shot up 18 percent and parents of almost four percent reported a food or digestive allergy in their child. No one really knows why and until two years ago, the CDC was not even tracking.

FDA reviewers have not found an association between Singulair and suicidal thoughts and mood changes. One year ago, some suicides were thought to be linked to Singulair and other the allergy meds, so much so that drug makers were required to update their labels warning of a possible link.

Want to lessen your chance of having a child with asthma? Plan a birth in months other than the fall. Babies conceived in December or January have a nearly 30 percent higher risk of developing asthma,according to a survey of 95,000 children living in Tennessee.

Hyperactivity and allergies are just a couple of the health problems linked to food dyes. The Center for Science in the Public Interest, and other scientists have petitioned the FDA to study the problem further, and to label and eventually ban the use of dyes, which have quadrupled since the 1950s.

Just as stress has a measurable effect on adults, so might it have a measurable impact on the developing fetus, according to Boston researchers. This study finds those mothers who live with the most stress while pregnant, may give birth to babies with more allergies or asthma.

Parents who have felt guilty about contributing to their children’s allergies can breath a small sigh of relief.  The American Academy of Pediatrics says there is no evidence that avoiding certain foods during pregnancy helps prevent food allergies.
