A British analysis finds Avandia and Actos, widely prescribed for type 32 diabetes, doubles the risk of fractures in women (not men). The drugs have already been in the news because of concerns about the risk for heart failure. Women should consider other options, says researchers.

Actor Dennis Quaid told lawmakers today that he used to think "frivolous lawsuits" were a problem, that is until his family became a victim of medical errors. Don't take away the right to find a remedy through the courts, he told lawmakers considering "Federal Preemption" that protects manufacturers of products if they're approved by the FDA.

Cat allergies are one that Singulair is taken to counteract. the drug by maker Merck is used by millions of Americans who suffer from allergies and asthma but the FDA says there may be a link to suicidal behavior and thoughts. It will investigate.

A government-funded four-year study to determine if controlling diabetes helps control heart disease, finds drugs didn't put patients at risk. Lowering blood sugar too dramatically did. The study has stopped 18 months short of its conclusion after more than 200 died.
