The cost between rising obesity rates and rising medical costs is undeniable.  With one quarter of U.S. adults obese, a new study compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Research Triangle Institute, finds obesity and diabetes could cost Americans $147 billion a year.

Overeating is the primary cause of obesity in the U.S., finds this study. An increase in exercise among Americans over 30 years ago has actually offset what might be an even greater weight gain.  Reduce intake by about 500 calories a day for adults, 350 calories a day for children to offset weight gain.

Results of the EPIC Study provide striking evidence that body weight and distribution of body fat are both major factors for assessing death risk. Fat is a serious problem. You need to eat right, exercise often and reduce stress to live the healthiest life possible.

Despite public efforts to promote good nutrition and physical activity, Americans are getting fatter. Adult obesity rates have surged across 37 states during the last year, according to an annual state-by-state report.
