More evidence is coming in that even a late preterm birth can carry a multitude of risks for the development of a newborn. The last few weeks in the womb are crucial for brain. lung and liver development. Many preterm births are linked to c-sections.

A C-section death reminds us of the risks involved with the procedure, even though it is on the increase. Doctors wanting to avoid malpractice and women seeking convenience need to understand the dangers.

Researchers suspect that the rise in C-sections is due more to the convenience factor than medical necessity. Women are warned against opting for a preterm C-section, because of the potential for harm to the newborn.
