When researching a new slimmer look, several dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons suggest avoiding lipodissolve – a shot that allegedly dissolves stubborn fat deposits.

Over-the-counter topical anesthetics made with lidocaine, tetracaine, benzocaine and prilocane, are skin numbing products used to relieve itch and to prepare for cosmetic procedures. But the FDA reports two deaths of young women and several adverse reactions linked to the ointments and gels. 

On Tuesday, an FDA advisory panel convened to review the many questions about dermal fillers. The panel suggests stronger, more specific warning labels about potential adverse side effects on dermal fillers injected to soften facial wrinkles.

An FDA expert panel will convene on Tuesday to consider whether wrinkle fillers need additional warnings after 930 side effects were reported to the agency.

Two bills before the California legislature tighten regulations on cosmetic procedures, the doctors that perform them, and the outpatient clinics where they are frequently done. The bills follow the death of Donda West, mother of music producer and rapper, Kanye West.
