Over the next 20 years, the number of cancer cases is expected to spike 45 percent. Especially hard hit are the elderly and minority populations.  Lifestyle changes are known to cut your cancer risk.

A new study says raising state taxes on alcohol can save lives. The findings, based on experiences in Alaska, found raising alcohol taxes resulted in a reduction of alcohol consumption which in turn saved lives. Also, most states have had the same taxes on alcohol for 20 years or more.

Perchlorate, from rocket fuel will have no federal standards, even though it contaminates drinking water in 35 states. The EPA and consumer and child advocates facing-off with the White House/Defense Department ended with the administration concluding cleanup was prohibitive.  Defense contractors could be on the hook for part of the cost of the contaminant which harms the thyroids of developing children.

Will lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18, reduce college binge drinking? Many college presidents hope so and are signing an initiative to urge the change. MADD says its a bad idea.

This study off more than 8,000, finds that Americans are drinking slightly less than they did 50 years ago, and have shifted their preference from beer to wine. White men have reduced their daily consumption from two-and-a-half to one-and-a-half drinks.
