Savana Redding's strip search by a middle school nurse and secretary was unconstitutional, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled today, despite the school's zero-tolerance policy toward drugs.  The ruling will affect school districts across the country trying to crack down on drug use.

While Risperdal is already approved for use in adolescents, three other makers of powerful atypical anti-psychotics are seeking FDA approval for use in the young.  The drugs are effective in some, but others say they can be fatal and are known to cause weight gain and increase the risk of diabetes.

Hoping to continue the success of its blockbuster antipsychotic drug, Zyprexa, Eli Lilly has suffered a setback in its request for FDA approval of a longer-lasting formulation. Zyprexa is mired in controversy about the side effects and allegations that Lilly withheld important safety information.

Nearly one in 25 older Americans — or 2.2 million people — are at risk for serious health problems from taking a dangerous combination of prescription, over-the-counter and dietary supplements, suggests a new nationwide survey.

While use of illegal drugs is down among teenagers, prescription drugs, with a low cost and high availability, are still the first choice for teenagers looking to get high.  A national survey of 67,000 finds that Baby Boomers are increasingly using illicit prescription drugs as they age.

A CDC survey finds that rates of risky behavior in teens, such as multiple sex partners, taking drugs, and suicide, have stabilized for white and black students, but not so for Hispanic students.
