Eight states are recalling 546,000 pounds of ground beef after E. coli contamination was detected. One person in New Hampshire has died and two others are sickened from what is suspected to be the same contaminated meat.

The Top Ten contaminated foods list is compiled by the Center for Science in the Public Interest. Modern agriculture, contaminated waste water, and dirty handling is blamed for many of the cases of bacterial contamination, and proposed improvements are pending in Congress.

Linda Rivera has been hospitalized since last May from eating raw cookie dough contaminated with E. coli 0157. With her condition worsening, her chance for recovery looks slim. 80 others suffered some form of sickness from the contaminated dough.

But getting to the root of the problem - the new documentary, "Food Inc." explores how agribusiness and factory farming methods have increased E. coli contamination and foodborne illnesses in the first place.

It is still a mystery how E. coli 0157 made it into cookie dough found in the Nestle Toll House plant in Virginia- but federal microbiologists have identified it there.  That section of the plant has been closed displacing 250 workers.

E. coli contamination of beef has led to a recall of more than 400,000 pounds with 24 people recording diarrhea, cramps, and vomiting from the bacterium.
