Faux leather handbags found in many different retailers were found to contain high amounts of lead. The Center for Environmental Health purchased the bags in San Francisco Bay Area retaillers and found that brightly colored bags were the worse offenders, indicating the lead could be in the dye or the faux material.

DuPont says the chemicals in the coatings are safe, but 89 people claim they got sick from Teflon-coated cookware. They had hoped to form a class-action in preparation for a lawsuit, but now they’ve been dealt a set-back.

Perchlorate, from rocket fuel will have no federal standards, even though it contaminates drinking water in 35 states. The EPA and consumer and child advocates facing-off with the White House/Defense Department ended with the administration concluding cleanup was prohibitive.  Defense contractors could be on the hook for part of the cost of the contaminant which harms the thyroids of developing children.
