The Top-10 most-frequent workplace violations for 2009 has been released by the U.S. Department of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
This first published study about bathtubs and shower dangers finds that an average of 43,600 injuries occur in the shower and tub, mostly to children under the age of four, and primarily at home.
The CDC reports about 47,000 falls a year among the elderly result from walkers not being properly fitted to the person. Canes and pets are a close second reason a person suffers a spill, which can lead to a hip fracture and a nursing home.
A CDC epidemiologist was often asked about injuries caused by pets. Now she has compiled the first ever report on pet-related injuries and finds that about 86,000 falls a year are pet-related.
Falls account for one out of three deaths at construction sites and the numbers are not getting any better. 100,000 are injured at construction sites every year. Unfortunately, OSHA is criticized for not using the leverage it has to impose fines on job sites that are not safe.
Our mission is to seek the complete truth and provide a full and fair account of the events and issues that surround personal safety, accident prevention, and injury recovery. We are committed to serving the public with honesty and integrity in these efforts.
