What role did Charles Schwab & Co. play in the Ponzi scheme by disgraced "Economan", Al Parish? That is what a class action lawsuit filed by 53 individuals in 13 states hopes to uncover, naming Schwab as liable for its involvement in the sale of unregistered securities, a violation of state law.

Insurance scams target female drivers, usually in a newer-type car, or distracted drivers, and create an accident that appears to be her fault. The scammers then claim they are the "victims" of injury and are costing insurance companies, and ultimately us all, billions in fraudulent claims.

Several Tobacco companies are planning to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene and overturn a May racketeering lawsuit ruling that requires them to tell the truth about the dangers of smoking and of "light" and "low-tar" cigarettes.

Kandace Marriott was convicted by a Texas jury and sentenced to 99 years in prison for her part in mortgage fraud. Falsifying an application to a lender makes up the bulk of fraud, which in this case cost the state of Texas $3 million.

The first of thousands of lawsuits against Big Tobacco is being heard in Florida following the dismantling of the $145 billion Engle case. Plaintiffs will not have to prove that the companies put out a defective product and committed fraud and that cigarettes cause at least 16 diseases. They will have to prove they were addicted to smoking. Plan on Big Tobacco to discredit the plaintiffs.

Was it business as usual, complicated by some bad financial decisions, or was there outright fraud involved in the collapse of the U.S. financial markets?  The FBI should have launched a full-scale investigation by now, but the bureau's domestic division has gone unfunded since 9/11.

A federal judge has given the green light to an investigation into whether Countrywide Finiancial Corp. abused and defrauded borrowers, a key component of this country's failing mortgage industry. Judge Thomas Agresti of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Pittsburgh gave the okay to a Justice Department arm, the Office of the U.S. Trustee, that polices the bankruptcy courts.
