The FDA has approved the vaccine Gardasil, manufactured by Merck Pharmaceuticals, for the prevention of vaginal and vulva cancer caused by strains 16 and 18 of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). These two types of HPV account for 70 percent of cervical cancers and are known to also cause some vaginal and vulvar cancers.

Judicial Watch , a public interest group, released documents from the FDA that uncover 1,637 adverse reactions to Gardasil , a human papillomavirus vaccine to prevent cervical cancer in girls. Three deaths have been related to the vaccine. One patient died of a blood clot three hours after receiving the vaccine

As we approach the one year anniversary of the approval of Gardasil by the FDA (June 8, 2006), adverse health reports are coming in from around the world about the vaccine intended for young teenage girls to prevent cervical cancers.
