The World Health Organization is denying critics who accuse the international health agency of hyping the H1N1 pandemic and being unduly influenced by big pharmaceutical companies that benefitted from lucrative vaccine contracts.

The CDC now has revised upwards its estimate of the number of people who've died from swine flu to 4,000 when it tallies in those with bacterial infections and pneumonia. Meanwhile a Virginia teen has suffered a serious reaction and critics say we need to tighten up adverse event reporting to get a better handle on the big picture.

The Merck drug featured in the “One Less” campaign has been updated to receive a warning about the potential for fainting after some young teens suffered jerking movements and seizures after being inoculated. Add that to the more than 13,000 adverse events reported including 39 deaths in the three years since the drug has been on the market.
