The CDC now has revised upwards its estimate of the number of people who've died from swine flu to 4,000 when it tallies in those with bacterial infections and pneumonia. Meanwhile a Virginia teen has suffered a serious reaction and critics say we need to tighten up adverse event reporting to get a better handle on the big picture.

Swine flu inoculation side effects will be monitored by an independent panel of experts from public health to see if we repeat the side effects noted from the 1976 swine flu vaccine.

The Merck drug featured in the “One Less” campaign has been updated to receive a warning about the potential for fainting after some young teens suffered jerking movements and seizures after being inoculated. Add that to the more than 13,000 adverse events reported including 39 deaths in the three years since the drug has been on the market.
