Plavix may not be effectively metabolized by up to 14 percent of users making the blockbuster anti-clot drug useless and putting patients at an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. The FDA will require a black box warning on the drug, the most severe warning the FDA can require.

For the first time, an FDA panel is recommending that healthy people receive a drug, the statin,Crestor, to prevent heart attacks, despite the side effect of diabetes. The recommendation was based on a study done by maker, AstraZeneca.

For the first time, Taser International, the stun gun maker, is issuing an advisory for law enforcement not to use the stun gun on the chest, head, or neck. The advice is being issued to help law enforcement defend itself against a multiple of lawsuits filed by suspects who have died after being shocked.

Continental Flight 61 was en route from Brussels, Belgium, to Newark, New Jersey, when the pilot died mid-flight today. Passengers were unaware of the event, since the co-pilots landed safely, until they saw the emergency vehicles at the end of the runway.
