A published report in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) finds that 67% of the outpatient centers visited had at least one lapse in infection control. An estimated 100,000 people die from hospital-acquired infections every year.

Kristen Diane Parker, a former Colorado surgery technician accused of stealing syringes filled with pain medication and switching them with used syringes, despite knowing she had hepatitis C, has been denied bail. Parker's actions put nearly 6,000 patients at risk.

The Southern Nevada Health District reports there are 105 cases of hepatitis C uncovered as a result of an investigation into two outpatient clinics. More than 7,000 former patients have been tested for the incurable blood disease.

Patients suing the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas for potential exposure to hepatitis C and other blood-borne diseases are being allowed to claim emotional distress in a class-action lawsuit.

85 cases of hepatitis C have now been linked to a Las Vegas clinic where shoddy public health practices put thousands in danger. Now the CDC is laying blame directly on the workers for reusing syringes, failing to wear gloves when administering medication and reusing cleaning solution for colonoscopy equipment.

The most expansive public health investigation in U.S. history has added more names to the list of victims. Now health officials say 85 former patients of the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada have been diagnosed with hepatitis C. Hundreds of others also have the disease but may have risk factors forcasting the complications involving the class-action litigation that lies ahead.

Two Las Vegas clinics that gave at least seven people hepatitis C had their licenses revoked by the city Monday after they forked over a $500,000 fine. That saved the executives in charge a face-to-face meeting with the approximately 80 angry citizens in attendance who hoped someone would be held accountable for the public health debacle.

Promising therapy out of Scripps Florida  - when a phosphoprotein is mutated it disrupts the life cycle of the hepatitis C virus and releases no infectious virus that can be detected. This discovery could lead to the development of new therapies.

As Nevada comes close to completing the inspection of 50 clinics for safety violations that may have put patients in danger—seven clinics have been found to have “major infection control problems, such as the reuse of single dose vials on multiple patients.

Nevada’s Governor Jim Gibbons has asked for the resignation of three doctors on the state’s Board of Medical Examiners who are charged with investigating physician involvement into the hepatitis C outbreak in his state.   That as conflicts of interest among board members who are longtime friends and associates with Dr. Desai are being uncovered.

Hepatitis C, B and HIV are the fears of most people who have ever visited the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada. But the case of Las Vegas pharmacist Kevin Rexford raises the question of just how well did the clinic check for colon cancer? In the case of Rexford, not very well.
