Hundreds of veterans have contacted groups reporting illnesses they believe resulted from their exposure to toxic smoke from burn pits, used by military contractors to get rid of all kinds of trash in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hundreds of thousands more may be affected.

Jamie Leigh Jones Daigle still has not had her rape case heard by a jury because former employer KBR/Halliburton wants the issue to be decided by arbitration. Sen. Al Franken's amendment to next year's defense bill does away with arbitration for violent assault cases.

At least 48 Oregon National Guardsmen are reporting ill effects that may have come from an airborne carcinogen they contacted while working in southern Iraq. 16 National Guardsmen have filed suit against KBR for failing to disclose to the Army the toxin that covered the ground at a water plant in southern Iraq.
