In a sudden turnabout, a major policy setting organization is discouraing regular mammograms for women in their 40s, saying the anxiety from false positives and surgical procedures outweighs the benefits.

A published study in the New England Journal of Medicine to weed out ineffective treatments has doctors scratching their heads. They thought vertebroplasty, the use of an acrylic cement, worked to relieve pain in those with oseoporotic vertebral fractures. Turns out those who didn't get the cement also got pain relief.

A Mayo Clinic study published Monday in Pediatrics finds autistic kids are more likely to be picky eaters  but don’t have more diarrhea, abdominal bloating, gastric reflux, or vomiting.  Many parents of autistic children have turned to gluten-free or dairy-free diets to minimize symptoms.

According to newly published research, you may begin to show the signs of Alzheimer’s disease and memory problems in your 50s if you inherit a common gene variant known as, ApoE4. What's perplexing is that not everyone with the gene develops Alzheimer's disease.

Patients who had a left ventricle with diastolic dysfunction when resting had a lower capacity for exercise, finds researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  While age and sex are not reversible, the heart condition and weight may be.
