The FDA does no testing of cosmetics or face paints  so a consumer group, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, has taken over that job, testing 10 products from a Halloween store. The results are scary, but consumers aren't left in the dark if they are informed.

Target Corp will pay $600,000 for allowing lead-containing toys on its shelves. The responsibility for assuring no foreign made toys are continuing to be imported with excessive lead levels, lies with the retailer.

OxyContin may be reformulated making it more difficult for addicts to dissolve the painkiller in water and inject it for a heroin-like effect. FDA advisors will consider the application Thursday.

Court documents released Monday help tell the story of a cocktail of drugs and half dozen doctors attending to Michael Jackson to help him fight insomnia. Propofol and a dozen other drugs led to his death, and Jackson becomes one of more than 20,000 deaths a year due to prescription drugs.

Health care reform should not include limiting the liability of dangerous doctors and unsafe hospitals, finds this study done by groups dedicated to preserving the civil justice system.  Medical malpractice claims have fallen like a rock creating record profits for the insurance industry, not lower premiums.

According to researchers at the Keele University School of Psychology, swearing might help to lessen the perception of pain. So next time you stub your toe and find yourself swearing !@$*%!# it may be a good thing -- just make sure the kids aren't in earshot!

Darvon and Darvocet, pain relievers that contain propoxyphene, will receive a stronger warning about the possibility of overdose. They just escaped being taken off the market by the FDA, which would have had a severe impact on about 500,000 daily users.

An FDA advisory panel urged a ban of popular prescription painkillers Vicodin and Percocet, both which contain acetaminophen, Tuesday. The panel also recommended lowering the maximum dose of over-the-counter painkillers containing acetaminophen, such as Tylenol and Excedrin.
