Talc contains tiny fibers similar to those found in asbestos that can travel from the genital area to the ovaries causing cancer. This federal lawsuit filed by a woman diagnosed with ovarian cancer, blames talc maker, Johnson & Johnson, as well as two mining companies for failing to warn the consumer.

A new study released by the CDC shows birth rates among teens increased in 2006 and 2007 after a 14 year decline. The study found improving trends in teens’ and young adults’ sexual and reproductive health has stalled and/or in some cases worsened.

Teens will be able to obtain the morning after pill, even under the age of 18, without a prescription under a District Judge ruling.  The change in policy is in response to a lawsuit that challenged requiring prescriptions for the emergency contraceptive for teens 17 and under.

Seven states and several family planning groups are challenging the Bush administration's "conscience rule" that allows medical workers to opt out of any involvement in reproductive health issues or information if they object. Poor women who seek out clinics would be most affected if the rules are allowed to stand.

Women should not lose the right to sue drug makers over dangerous drugs and devices, a New York nonprofit says, refering to an upcoming high-profile federal preemption case. Many unsafe drugs marketed to women concern reproduction, injuring and making infertile otherwise healthy women.

LabCorp has been issued a warning letter by the FDA for illegally marketing a drug test to detect ovarian cancer. First introduced in June, the test promises to detect ovarian cancer in early stages, when it is still treatable.

Leaving a cell phone on talk mode changed sperm in this latest study from the Cleveland Clinic. To be extra careful, if you plan on fathering children, might not want leave a cell phone in the talk mode in your pants pocket.

Adding a blood test that looks for a tumor marker, to the "symptom index" for ovarian cancer, increased detection to more than 80 percent for early stages of the "silent killer" of women.
