The second major drug company merger in as many months, Merck will acquire Schering-Plough for $41 billion.  Fewer blockbuster drugs, and the promises of healthcare reform are pushing changes in the pharmaceutical industry.  

FDA reviewers have not found an association between Singulair and suicidal thoughts and mood changes. One year ago, some suicides were thought to be linked to Singulair and other the allergy meds, so much so that drug makers were required to update their labels warning of a possible link.  

The rates of suicide are up among the group generally considered the happiest and most secure. Do prescription drugs have some bearing on suicide rates?

Cat allergies are one that Singulair is taken to counteract. the drug by maker Merck is used by millions of Americans who suffer from allergies and asthma but the FDA says there may be a link to suicidal behavior and thoughts. It will investigate.
